Almost 200 Buddhist monks, nuns, laypeople, and yogis attended a seven-day meditation retreat in Hubei Province, China, conducted by Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche, the Abbot of the Holy Vajrasana Temple located near Sanger, California. She was assisted by Gesang Suolang RInpoche who is shown above waiting for everyone to sit before starting the morning meditation session. The abbot, using the discourses given by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III on zen meditation and cultivation, told those present that the purpose of zen meditation is to gain liberation from the suffering of earthly existence and explained how it was necessary to keep the precepts and practice cultivation in order to receive the true benefits of practicing meditation. Many present took refuge in the Buddha and vowed to keep the precepts. As a special blessing, Buddha Lights appeared the last two days of the retreat. For more photos go to Xuanfa Institute Website.
