The First Vajra Throne
The bodhimanda of Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment is located at Bodhgaya in North-eastern India in the state of Bihar. It is one of the four pilgrimage sites mentioned by Shakyamuni Buddha in the Mahaparinibbana Sutta and considered the first Vajra Throne in the World. It is said that earlier Buddhas who came to this world were also enlightened at this site. The Mahabodhi Temple shown here was built during the 5th to 6th centuries of the current era and is one of the most important sites of pilgrimage in the Buddhist world.
