The group shot above contains most of the 50+ students who attended a meditation retreat at the Holy Vajrasana Temple on February 16-17. Most were from Hong Kong and mainland China, but others were from northern California and Utah.
The students began by paying homage to the Holy Vajra Poles in the one brief moment that blue skies prevailed. The Holy Poles did shake in response to the sincere request of the disciples. However, it rained for most of the weekend, sometimes quite fiercely. It did seem to stop long enough to fit our schedule and allow the meditators to do their walking meditation outdoors.
Everyone quickly learned the rituals associated with Oryoki service, even the little ones.
The temple’s schedule is focusing this year to provide opportunities for English-speakers to hear the preliminary translations of Dharma Discourses given by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. However private retreats may also be scheduled as space and time is available.
