Flowering Tree Rains Nectar

As students performed skits and other shows in honor of H.H.Wan Ko Yisinubu’s birthday, the beautiful jacaranda tree over the veranda began raining. Hanging in this tree was a very large thangka of the thousand-armed Kuan Yin Bodhisattva that had been specially requested from the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tibet to celebrate His Holiness’s birthday. Just like two years earlier, the sweet, fragrant dew descended from a bright blue, cloudless sky and only in the vicinity of this one tree. Sometimes the nectar descended in thin thread-like lines. Sometimes it was more like fluffy snow-flakes. It was very magical. Sometimes you could feel it and see it and sometimes you could only see it, but not feel it. Disciples were able to taste the nectar when it fell in their mouths. Nectar continued to descend for seven days and seven nights. Just like before it did not seem to touch the tree as it fell.

Of course, this is no ordinary place. His Holiness has practiced the Dharma at this site many times. Many disciples have witnessed holy states here. Last year the “Ultimate Bathing the Buddha Ceremony” was held here where the seven holy states were manifested including two disciples lifting a two ton pool of water. Later this was where the grass mandala formed. In 2000 His Holiness successfully conducted “Buddhas Bestow Nectar Ceremony” at this location. This was also the site of the Dharma Wheel initiation given Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche last December. This is a very special mandala.

His Holiness told Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas would only allow this miracle to be photographed by video camera, but that she could try and capture it on her digital camera. Although it was “raining” quite hard and the sun was very bright, she still could not record the event. There was, however, a video tape made of this event that can be viewed at various temples and dharma centers.
